Here are a few questions you might have before you get going on this. There are many uses, such as adding it at the beginning, in the middle of your cook time or just brushed on at the end. We like it all.

What cut of corned beef is more tender?

The point has more fat on it which makes it a bit better to getting fork tender. Of course every piece is different, I suggest you choose the one that has the MOST fat possible on one side.

What is better point cut or flat cut corned beef?

Point cut is rounder and has more marbling, this allows for more flavor and juiciness. Leaner flat cuts offer a great deal of flavor if cooked correctly. Pressure cooker corned beef is best we say.

What kind of mustard do you serve with corned beef?

I used yellow mustard for years until we created this mustard sauce for corned beef which is out of this world!

Do you rinse corned beef before cooking?

If you smoke corned beef you do, otherwise I do not. Rinsing will eliminate some of the marinade and flavor on the outside.

No matter what cooking method you use, you've gotta' pour this on top or serve it on the side in a gravy boat. We now can share how to smoke corned beef because we made it recently and are ready to share. You can even make Instant Pot frozen corned beef if you forgot to defrost it.

Corned beef sauce

  • Corned beef brisket
  • Brown sugar
  • Honey
  • Yellow mustard
  • Spicy mustard

If I am planning on using this I do not use the spice packet that comes in the bag. One or the other is best, not both.

AND this meat is not just for March 17 St Patrick's Day, it is way too good to just have it once a year I tell you!

Time needed:5 minutes.

Mustard for Corned Beef

  1. Mix ingredients

Add all items into a large measuring cup. Use a fork or whisk to mix ingredients together until it is as smooth as possible.

  2. Cook

Depending on your method of cooking, you can pour on top an hour or so before your meat is done or serve on the side. You could do both too if you made a double batch.

And then you get to taste the amazement!

As I said we have made this meat many different ways. Another favorite is our dutch oven corned beef and cabbage recipe, or corned beef in a Crockpot.

I think this is because you can add all the carrots and potatoes you want and slow cook it until it falls apart. I would suggest using beer instead of water too because it adds a lot of flavor!

Try it on our Instant Pot brisket too and see if you like it on other cuts.

Nutritional information is included in the printable recipe below for you. If you want to double it you'd just need to add 1/2 cup of brown sugar and twice the amount of all the other ingredients too.
