Copycat Trader Joes Everything But The Bagel Seasoning

There is nothing like the original but when you don't live near a Trader Joe's and are wanting everything but the bagel seasoning that they sell you have got to make it yourself. This is my version of a copycat everything but the bagel seasoning and I hope you put it on EVERYTHING!

Everything But The Bagel Seasoning Uses:

Everything but the bagel seasoning is one of my favorite homemade spice mixes. Here is a shortlist on how we use it:

  • Olive oil (think dipping oil)

Is everything but the bagel seasoning Whole30?

The ingredients for this recipe of everything but the bagel seasoning is Whole30 compliant. There is nothing in this recipe that goes against the Whole30 guidelines so enjoy it sprinkled on your favorite Whole30 recipes.

How much does this recipe make?

This recipe for everything but the bagel seasoning makes about 4 ounces or ½ cup dry measure. Depending on how you measure out your ingredients you may get a variation in the finished measurement but it shouldn't be by much.

How do you store everything but the bagel seasoning?

I store my everything but the bagel seasoning in a canning jar with a lid and a ring in a cool dry place. You want to keep moisture out of the seasoning so any airtight container would work. Keep out of direct sunlight to keep the ingredients from degrading.

Can I substitute onion powder and garlic powder in this recipe?

As much as you would want to substitute onion powder and garlic powder for the dried minced onion and the dried minced garlic, I highly suggest you do NOT make the substitution. A tablespoon of dried minced onion and a tablespoon of onion powder have not only a different texture but the intensity of the onion flavor is more powerful in a tablespoon of onion powder. Even if you were to adjust the measurements, the powders would settle to the bottom of the jar and you would not have the right mixture to have the flavors you love.

  • Sea Salt (or flake salt)
  • Dried onion flakes
  • Dried minced onions
  • Black sesame seeds
  • White sesame seeds
  • Poppy seeds

Can I add other seasonings to this recipe?

You are welcome to add other seasonings to this recipe. I would suggest caraway seeds, pink Himalayan salt and/or cracked black pepper. If you wanted to try another layer of flavor try some dried sage. I would start by adding a teaspoon at a time and add until you are satisfied with the flavor combination.
